Alex from The Oar House highly recommends the New Zealand Kono this month.
‘Kono is one of our most popular wines and it is easy to see why, it’s a fresh dry white wine that appeals to many pallets and it complements seafood beautifully, especially shellfish. it has a great fruit flavour, bright and refreshing and it is sure to leave a smile on your face’!
Sean Doran met with Dan Taylor from Kono wines when he visited Ireland earlier this year.
New Zealand Wine Producer visits The Oarhouse
It’s not often a supplier to travels all the way across the globe to meet their customers, however we were delighted to meet Mr Dan Taylor from Kono wines in New Zealand when he visited us in The Oar House last month, accompanied by his Irish distributor, Robert Smith and his charming wife, Christine. They met with Seán Doran for a meal of the best Howth has to offer.
Here is a picture of Dan holding a freshly landed (off the Celtic Fisher) Dublin Bay Prawn while Sean holds a bottle of Kono Sauvignon Blanc, Marlborough wine – the perfect match!
Sean comments. ‘The ironic coincidence is that Kono are not only a wine producer, they are Māori producers of many varieties of seafood such as oysters, rock lobsters and the world famous New Zealand green shell mussels. So it was fascinating to talk about the similarities and connections we had and the complimentary nature of our businesses’.
Kono wines are not only available in the Oar House, they is also available next door in Octopussy’s and at Dorans over the Beachcomber in Killester. It’s important to have a fresh dry wine that’s appeals to so many pallets in all of our outlets. Because it’s universally popular and compliments seafood, especially shellfish so well, we have decided to stock it in the 3 outlets.
